Last week, we posted about the Top 10 Ways to Avoid Blisters and one of the products we mentioned to be used preventatively was “foot fleece”. We realize that not everyone knows what that is, so here we are to tell you a little bit more about it.

While on our New Zealand Holiday, home to only a few million people and 45 million sheep, we visited the Agrodome in Rotorua and learned all about sheep farming, sheering and so on. In their gift shop (who can resist a good gift shop!), they were selling foot fleece to hikers. Later on this same trip, when it was time to embark on the 5-day Milford Track, they too were selling foot fleece in their gift shop. A bunch of us bought some to try out and WOWEE was it helpful in preventing blisters!

Thank you to Comfortable Hiking Holidays’ for their review (Toronto, Canada)

OUR STORY

Family Owned from Te Anau, New Zealand

Understanding the almost magical qualities of wool, my Mum - an artist, spinner, weaver and all-round lover of natural wool - decided to find a way to make the hiking boots of the 70s kinder on your feet.  Blessed with ‘odd’ toes, she was prone to blisters and hot spots but she had an idea.

That idea became Foot Fleece, seen here on the stunning Milford Track in 1980, her love of wool defeated her blisters.  (Those are Mum’s toes!).
